1. WHAT ARE LOTTERY GIFT CARDS?

Lottery gift cards are a new and convenient option of lottery gift giving. OLG offers two types of cards, one that is a single-use card and another that can be used over time.

 

2. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF LOTTERY GIFT CARDS?

There are two types of lottery gift cards available, the single-use LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX gift cards and the Lottery Gift Card, both of which can be found at thousands of retail locations across Ontario.

  • Beginning October 11, 2016, the LOTTO 6/49 Gift Card is available for $20 and the LOTTO MAX Gift Card is available for $30. The LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX cards include one Quick Pick play plus ENCORE for five consecutive draws, with the same set of Quick Pick numbers for each draw. These cards are available at participating lottery retailers and at participating major big box retailers and grocery stores.

  • Beginning November 22, 2016, the Lottery Gift Card is available and functions as a declining balance gift card. This card may be purchased in price increments of $1 ranging from a minimum $5 to a maximum of $100, and redeemed for any lottery product or combination of products (Lotto, INSTANT and Sports). The Lottery Gift Card is sold at participating lottery retailers and only redeemable through lottery terminals.

3. IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION ON PURCHASING LOTTERY GIFT CARDS?

Lottery gift cards are available for purchase by any consumer; however the cards can only be redeemed at a lottery retailer by those 18 years of age and older.

4. MINORS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE LOTTERY TICKETS, SO WHY CAN MINORS BUY THESE LOTTERY GIFT CARDS?

Lottery gift cards are not lottery tickets. Retailers must verify the age of those redeeming the lottery gift card for a lottery product.

Similar to gift cards for alcohol purchases, cards may be purchased by someone under the minimum age as a gift, however the cards can only be redeemed by those of age at a retailer.

5. HOW DO I REDEEM A LOTTERY GIFT CARD?

To redeem a lottery gift card, present the card to a lottery retailer who will scan the card, and print your tickets. You can redeem a gift card anytime you can buy or redeem a lottery ticket (normal draw break and terminal down times apply).

With a LOTTO 6/49 or LOTTO MAX gift card, you will automatically receive one Quick Pick play plus ENCORE for the next five consecutive draws, with the same set of numbers for each draw. With a Lottery Gift Card, you will need to tell the retailer which games you would like to play and how much of the gift card you would like to spend.

6. DO THE LOTTERY GIFT CARDS EXPIRE?

No, lottery gift cards do not have an expiry date.

7. WHERE CAN LOTTERY GIFT CARDS BE PURCHASED?

Lottery gift cards can be purchased at participating lottery retailers and at hundreds of other locations including big box retailers and grocery stores.

8. WHERE CAN LOTTERY GIFT CARDS BE REDEEMED?

All lottery gift cards can only be redeemed at more than 8,400 participating lottery retailers. Please note, lottery gift cards cannot be redeemed at Shoppers Drug Mart, Shell and Petro Canada.

9. CAN OLG GIFT CARDS BE USED/REDEEMED OUTSIDE OF ONTARIO? CAN I SENT A CARD AS A GIFT TO SOMEONE LIVING IN ANOTHER PROVINCE?

OLG Gift Cards can only be redeemed at participating Ontario lottery retailers. While cards can be given to someone in another province, the cards can only be redeemed in Ontario. This is similar to lottery tickets which can only be redeemed for prizes in the province/region where they are sold.

10. ARE THE LOTTERY GIFT CARDS RELOADABLE?

No, the lottery gift cards are not reloadable.

11. I LOST MY LOTTERY GIFT CARD, CAN IT BE REPLACED?

We may be able to assist in replacing your card if, you have the receipt and the card has been turned in. If you do not have the receipt and/or the card has not been turned in, we cannot replace the gift card. Please remember, that gift cards should be protected like cash.

12. CAN I RETURN MY LOTTERY GIFT CARD FOR CASH?

No. Lottery gift cards cannot be returned for cash.

13. HOW CAN I CHECK THE BALANCE OF MY LOTTERY GIFT CARD?

You can check the balance of your gift card by visiting the lottery gift card page on olg.ca (http://www.olg.ca/lotteries/giftcards.jsp) and following the prompts. If you have a LOTTO 6/49 or LOTTO MAX gift card, you can check whether or not the card has been used, by visiting olg.ca (http://www.olg.ca/lotteries/giftcards.jsp) and following the prompts. You can also ask a lottery retailer to check the balance of your gift card or scan the card with the ticket checker.

14. CAN THE LOTTERY GIFT CARDS BE PURCHASED AND/OR REDEEMED ON PLAYOLG.CA?

No. Lottery gift cards can only be purchased and redeemed at participating retailers. Depending on the success of the lottery gift cards, this option may be offered in the future.

LOTTO 6/49 AND LOTTO MAX GIFT CARDS

1. WHAT ARE LOTTO 6/49 AND LOTTO MAX GIFT CARDS?

2. CAN I CHOOSE WHICH DRAWS I CAN REDEEM MY FIVE PLAYS FOR?

On redemption, the LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX gift cards are valid for one play for the next five consecutive draws from the time you redeem your gift card. You can choose when to redeem the gift card, which will determine which five consecutive draws you play.

3. WHERE ARE THE LOTTO 6/49 AND LOTTO MAX GIFT CARDS SOLD?

LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX gift cards are sold at participating lottery retailers, as well as at participating major big box retailers and grocery stores.

4. WHY DON’T ALL LOTTERY RETAILERS OFFER LOTTO 6/49 AND LOTTO MAX GIFT CARDS?

These cards are distributed to retail stores by third-party suppliers; however those suppliers may not work with all current lottery retail locations. Most lottery retailers do offer our declining balance Lottery Gift Card which can be used for LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX, as well as all other lottery products.

LOTTERY GIFT CARD

Yes. The Lottery Gift Card can be used for any lottery product (Lotto, INSTANT and Sports) or combination of lottery products.

3. WHERE CAN I BUY A LOTTERY GIFT CARD?

Lottery Gift Cards are available at more than 8,400 lottery retailers. Please note, these cards cannot be purchased or redeemed at Shoppers Drug Mart, Shell or Petro Canada locations.

4. WHY DON’T ALL LOTTERY RETAILERS SELL LOTTERY GIFT CARDS?

Some retailers choose to not sell gift cards of any kind. However, a large number of lottery retailers do sell and redeem Lottery Gift Cards.

5. DO I HAVE TO USE THE FULL AMOUNT ON THE LOTTERY GIFT CARD ALL OF THAT SAME TIME?

No. You are able to use as much of the gift card as you would like at a time on any combination of lottery products.

6. WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM CASH VALUE I CAN PUT ON THE CARD?

The Lottery Gift Card can be purchased for any amount from $5 to $100 in $1 increments.
