The OLG Lottery App allows lottery players to check their tickets on their mobile device along with a variety of other features:
Scanner: scan any lottery ticket (Lotto, INSTANT, Sports or QUICKTICKETS) to check for potential winners.
OLG Gift Card Balance: scan the barcode of an OLG Gift Card to view the remaining balance.
QUICKTICKET Information: scan the validation barcode on the front of the QUICKTICKET to view draw details including the game, draw date, and Quick Pick numbers played.
Jackpot and Game Information: find current jackpots, recent winning numbers, set reminders to purchase and check tickets.
OLG Location Finder: find nearby OLG lottery retailers and gaming sites.
Responsible Gaming: direct link to OLG’s responsible gaming website PlaySmart.ca.
2. WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
The OLG Lottery App is available as a free download in the App Store on iPhones and the Google Play Store on Android smartphones.
3. WHAT TYPE OF DEVICE DO I NEED TO USE THE OLG LOTTERY APP AND WHAT ARE THE OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS?
The OLG Lottery App is available for iPhones and Android smartphones. The app requires iPhones 4s, 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6s, 6s Plus, SE or 7 to have iOS 9 or newer installed. Android smartphones require the operating system 4.4 or newer.
4. WHY ISN’T THERE AN APP AVAILABLE FOR TABLETS?
The OLG Lottery App has been designed for use on smartphones.
5. DOES THE OLG LOTTERY APP COST ANYTHING?
No. The OLG Lottery App is free to download and the features are free to use.
6. HOW DO I USE THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
7. DO I HAVE TO REGISTER TO USE THE APP?
No. There is no registration required to use the OLG Lottery App.
8. CAN I PURCHASE LOTTERY PLAYS USING THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
No. Lottery plays cannot be purchased through the OLG Lottery App at this time, although we may be able to offer lottery purchases on mobile devices in the future. Lottery players have the option to register as customers with our gaming website PlayOLG.ca and to play LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49 and ENCORE from their desktop computers.
9. HOW DO I TURN ON/OFF PUSH NOTIFICATIONS FROM THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
You can turn push notifications on/off in the Settings menu within the app.
10. DO I NEED TO BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER TO USE THIS APP?
11. DO I NEED TO ALLOW ACCESS TO THE CAMERA FOR THE OLG LOTTERY APP TO WORK?
In order for the Scanner feature to work, you will need to allow the app access to your device’s camera.
12. IF I DENY ACCESS NOW, CAN I TURN IT ON LATER?
Yes. You can allow the app access through the settings on your device at any time.
13. IF I ALLOW ACCESS TO MY CAMERA, DOES OLG HAVE ACCESS TO MY CAMERA ROLL/PHOTOS?
No. OLG cannot access your camera roll/photos and will only need camera access in order to scan tickets using the Scanner feature.
14. DO I NEED TO ALLOW ACCESS TO MY LOCATION IN ORDER FOR THE APP TO WORK?
The Location Finder feature will need access to your device’s location in order to find the locations nearest you. You can still use the feature’s search function to find OLG locations without allowing access.
15. DOES OLG HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER INFORMATION ON MY DEVICE IF I DOWNLOAD THE APP?
The OLG Lottery App will only use your camera and location services as needed once you have allowed access. Information on your usage of the app for analytical purposes and security monitoring will also be collected by OLG. This information remains anonymous and in no way identifies you personally.
16. WHAT AM I AGREEING TO WHEN I DOWNLOAD THE APP?
17. DOES OLG COLLECT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM APP USERS AND IF SO, IS THE PRIVACY OF USERS PROTECTED?
18. DOES MY DEVICE NEED INTERNET ACCESS TO USE THE APP?
Yes. Please ensure you have access to the internet on your device to use the features of the OLG Lottery App.
19. HOW MUCH DATA DOES THE APP USE?
The Lottery App uses a minimal amount of data. Approximately 1-2 kilobytes of data is used when scanning a ticket, refreshing jackpot information or searching for a retailer.
20. CAN I CHANGE THE LANGUAGE OF THE APP?
Yes. From the menu, select Settings. You can change the language of the app to either English or French.
21. IF I USE THE APP, IS THERE STILL A REASON TO SIGN UP/RECEIVE WINNER’S EDGE EMAIL ALERTS?
With the app, you are able to set reminders that are sent directly to your mobile device as push notifications, instead of your email. You may still wish to your receive the Winner’s Edge email as it has numerous other features unique to the emails such as jackpot alerts and product information.
22. ARE YOU PLANNING TO ADD MORE FEATURES IN THE FUTURE?
We are considering adding additional features and during this initial launch we will be monitoring user feedback on the current functions of the app.
23. DOES OLG OFFER ANY OTHER APPS? IS THERE AN APP FOR CASINO STYLE GAMES?
OLG's iGaming website, PlayOLG, offers a mobile Casino app that allows registered PlayOLG customers to play their favourite casino games on their Apple or Android smartphones. Please visit PlayOLG.ca for more information.
24. WHY DOESN’T OLG DEVELOP ONE APP FOR LOTTERY AND PLAYOLG? WHY HAVE TWO SEPARATE APPS?
The PlayOLG app is an extension of the PlayOLG website and was developed for customers who like to play casino games online and who want to play those games on their smartphones.
The OLG Lottery app allows lottery players to check their tickets on their mobile device along with a variety of other features. OLG may consider combining this functionality on one app in the future.
25. CAN OLG EMPLOYEES USE THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
OLG employees are encouraged to review the Employee and Insider Participation sections of the Code of Conduct, and note that the lottery prizes won’t be paid out if it is found an OLG employee participated in any way in that lottery.
26. CAN I CHECK IF MY TICKET IS A WINNER WITH THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
Yes. You can use the Scanner on the OLG Lottery App to check any OLG ticket including Lotto, INSTANT, Sports and QUICKTICKETS. You can also scan your QUICKTICKET to view your draw date and Quick Pick numbers, as well as check the balance of an OLG Lottery Gift Card.
27. HOW DOES THE SCANNER WORK?
The app automatically opens to the Scanner feature. Tap the camera icon to open the scanning view finder. The first time you select this icon, you will be asked to allow access to your device’s camera to enable the scanner feature. Place the ticket’s barcode within the view finder and once the image is clear and steady, it will automatically scan the barcode and produce the results for that ticket.
28. WHY IS THE SCANNER HAVING TROUBLE FINDING THE BARCODE ON MY TICKET?
Please make sure you have the updated version of the app. The app was updated on June 7/8 to make it easier to use. The update includes a smaller scanning field that recognizes the barcode more easily. When the scanner finds the barcode the corners of the scanning area will turn from white to green and a loading symbol will appear.
29. WHAT INFORMATION WILL THE APP SHOW WHEN I SCAN A TICKET?
The information displayed by the app after a ticket has been scanned, will depend on whether you have scanned before or after the draw, and whether or not your ticket is a QUICKTICKET:
The draw hasn’t happened: before a draw happens, the results of your scan will show the game name and date of the upcoming draw. You will also be able to set a draw reminder to check your ticket, and view the upcoming jackpot information.
Ticket results: after the draw has happened, scanning your ticket will display the game name, the date of the draw and the prize amount. You can also set a ticket reminder for the next draw and view the upcoming jackpot information. If your prize amount is more than $5,000, you will be prompted to view the Next Steps for claiming your prize.
QUICKTICKET: before and after the draw for a QUICKTICKET, the information presented will be the same as above, with the additional option to view your ticket. Once you have scanned the ticket, select See Numbers, to view your Quick Pick numbers.
30. WHY WON’T MY DEVICE SCAN MY TICKET?
If you receive an error code while trying to scan your ticket, tap the question mark icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen to access Scanner Help. You can also try any of the following tips if you are having difficulties scanning your ticket:
Make sure that you have allowed the app to access your camera. If you initially denied the access, you will have to change this in your device’s settings.
In order for the scanner to work, it must be bright enough for the camera to read the barcode. If you need additional light, turn the flash symbol on in the bottom left hand corner of the scanner screen to turn on your device’s light.
Make sure the ticket is being held still. Try putting the ticket on a flat surface and holding your device above the barcode.
Ensure the entire barcode is visible within the view finder window.
Ensure that you are scanning the correct barcode on an OLG lottery product.
Make sure your ticket is as flat as possible before scanning. The scanner will work best when the ticket is in good condition and the barcode is not wrinkled.
31. CAN I CHECK A TICKET FOR A NATIONAL LOTTERY GAME THAT WAS PURCHASED OUTSIDE OF ONTARIO?
No. Only tickets purchased in Ontario can be checked with the app. Please check your ticket with the lottery jurisdiction that issued the ticket.
32. IS THE OLG LOTTERY APP AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD OUTSIDE OF CANADA?
No. The app is restricted to Canada and isn’t available in the American app store. The OLG Lottery App will only scan OLG tickets.
33. CAN THE SCANNER FEATURE BE USED AT ANY TIME OF DAY?
The app’s scanner will be available during the same hours at OLG’s in-store Ticket Checkers. Normal draw breaks and terminal down times apply to the Scanner feature. If you attempt to scan a ticket during draw breaks, you will see the message “Check ticket manually”.
34. WHY DOES THE APP SAY THAT I HAVE TO SEE RETAILER FOR OFFICIAL WINNING NUMBERS AFTER I SCAN MY TICKET?
While every effort is made to ensure the information is correct, all tickets that are scanned with the app must still be validated through an OLG lottery terminal. Please visit a lottery retailer to validate your ticket and redeem any prize.
35. CAN I VIEW THE WINNING NUMBERS ON THE APP WITHOUT SCANNING A TICKET?
You can view the most recent winning numbers for each draw on the app by selecting the Jackpots section, and then selecting the game. The most recent winning numbers, along with the next jackpot information is provided for each draw. For more past winning numbers, please visit olg.ca.
36. DO I STILL HAVE TO BRING MY TICKET TO A RETAILER TO VALIDATE IF I WON?
Yes. Winning tickets must still be brought to an OLG retailer or the OLG Prize Centre to be validated or redeemed.
37. CAN I SCAN MY QUICKTICKET TO SEE IF IT IS A WINNER?
Yes. You can use the Scanner to scan the validation code under the latex on the front of your ticket to determine if you may be a winner. You can also see your Quick Pick numbers by selecting See Numbers after you scan the ticket. If the draw for your ticket has not yet happened, you will see the message ‘The draw hasn’t happened’ and the options to set a Draw Reminder and See Numbers.
38. WHY AM I GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I TRY TO SCAN MULTIPLE TICKETS?
The app has a limit on the number of transactions performed by a single device within a single minute or a single hour. An error message will appear if you use the scanner more than 12 times in a one minute period and more than 50 times in a one hour period. If you hit these limits the Lottery App will refresh after the one minute or one hour period and you will be able to continue to use the scanner.
39. CAN I CHECK MY QUICKTICKET INFORMATION WITH THE APP?
Yes. Scan the validation code under the latex on the front of your QUICKTICKET, and then select See Numbers to view your draw date and Quick Pick numbers. You can also view the jackpot information and set a ticket reminder for the draw.
40. I SCANNED MY QUICKTICKET AND IT SAYS IT “QUICKTICKET NOT ACTIVATED” – WHAT DO I DO NOW?
Please return to the store where you purchased your QUICKTICKET with your original grocery receipt as proof of purchase, and speak to the OLG retailer at the customer service desk.
41. HOW DO I CHECK MY OLG LOTTERY GIFT CARD BALANCE?
To check your OLG Lottery Gift Card balance, open the Scanner in the app, and then place the barcode within the view finder – the app will automatically scan the code when it is clear and fully in view. You will be asked to enter the Gift Card Pin (found under the latex area on the back of the card). The balance of your card will then appear on the screen. LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49 Gift Cards can also be scanned with the app, and will show the value of the card, or a zero balance if the card has been used.
42. CAN I SCAN MY CASINO SPORTS TICKET WITH THE OLG LOTTERY APP?
If you scan a casino sports ticket with the OLG Lottery App, you will see the result, “See Lottery Retailer.” Please visit the casino retailer where your ticket was purchased regarding your casino sports ticket.
JACKPOTS, GAME INFORMATION & ALERTS:
43. IS UPCOMING JACKPOT INFORMATION AVAILABLE ON THE APP?
Upcoming jackpots are available under the Jackpots tab on the home screen. Each game’s section features the upcoming jackpot and draw date along with the most recent winning numbers and an option to set a Ticket Reminder.
44. WHY IS THE POKER LOTTO ALL IN JACKPOT INFORMATION OUTDATED?
To ensure you have the most up to date POKER LOTTO ALL IN jackpot information, you must fully close the app and then reopen it to refresh this jackpot information. For the current jackpot, you can also visit the POKER LOTTO page on olg.ca or an OLG lottery retailer.
45. CAN I FIND WINNING NUMBERS ON THE APP WITHOUT SCANNING A TICKET?
You can view the most recent winning numbers for each draw on the app by selecting the Jackpots tab on the home screen, and then selecting the game. The most recent winning numbers, along with the next jackpot information is provided for each draw. For more past winning numbers, please visit the Lotteries section of olg.ca.
46. WHAT IS A TICKET REMINDER? HOW DO I SET A TICKET REMINDER?
For each lottery game, there is the option to set Ticket Reminders to buy a ticket for the upcoming draw, or for every draw. A push notification will appear on your phone at 10 a.m. for MIDDAY draws, and 5 p.m. for EVENING draws (please note, this feature will use the time zone set on your device). From the home screen, select the Jackpots tab, then the game for which you wish to set the reminder. At the bottom of your screen, tap the Ticket Reminder bar, and select which reminder you prefer. This turns your Ticket Reminder ON, as you will see at the top of your screen.
47. HOW DO I TURN OFF TICKET REMINDERS?
In the Jackpots tab on the home screen, select the game for which you wish to turn off the reminder. At the bottom of the screen, tap the Ticket Reminder bar and unselect the reminder option. You will see at the top of your screen this has turned the Ticket Reminder OFF.
48. CAN I CHANGE THE TIME I GET THE TICKET REMINDER?
The Ticket Reminder is set for 10 a.m. for MIDDAY draws and 5 p.m. for EVENING draws, providing users sufficient time to purchase their ticket at a retail location prior to sales closing for that draw. Please note this feature will use the time zone set on your device.
OLG LOCATION FINDER:
49. WHAT IS THE LOCATION FINDER? HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Location Finder will use the location of your device to find OLG locations closest to you, including OLG retail locations, casinos, racetracks, etc. You can also search for OLG locations using a street address. You can then select a location to get directions, and view hours of operation for OLG gaming sites and the Prize Centre.
50. DO I NEED TO ALLOW ACCESS TO MY LOCATION FOR THIS FEATURE TO WORK?
By allowing the OLG Lottery App access to your location services, you will be able to find the OLG locations closest to you. You can however use the Location Finder by entering a street address without allowing access to your location.
51. WHAT IF I ONLY WANT TO FIND RETAIL LOCATIONS/GAMING SITES?
You can select the Filters option in the top right hand corner of your screen and choose which type of OLG location you are looking to find, whether retail, casinos, race tracks, etc. Then select Save and you will be shown those locations closest to you.
52. WHY IS NOTHING APPEARING NEAR ME WHEN I USE THE LOCATION FINDER?
Ensure that you have allowed access to your location in your device’s settings. If you have allowed access, you may also try to zoom out on the map to widen your search.
53. CAN I SEARCH FOR LOCATIONS USING A STREET NAME INSTEAD OF FINDING THOSE CLOSEST TO ME?
Yes. Click on the Enter Location bar that appears just above the map and start typing a street name. Choose the street from the menu that appears.
54. WHEN I SELECT GET DIRECTIONS, A NOTIFICATION APPEARS ASKING IF I WANT TO LEAVE THE APP – WHY?
The Lottery App location finder will show OLG locations and street addresses, but does not provide directions. If you wish to get directions, they will be provided through your device’s maps app. To leave the OLG app, you must confirm your action by selecting Yes.
