Toronto, ON – Leslie Simpson from Beaverton is celebrating after winning $5 million from the July 15, 2017 LOTTO 6/49 draw.
“My routine is to go to the store every Sunday morning to check my lottery tickets,” shared Leslie while at the OLG Prize Centre where he picked up his winnings. “As the retailer scanned my ticket, I could hear music coming from the terminal. Then OLG called to confirm my win.”
When the validation slip was printed, Leslie thought he won $500,000. “The retailer stopped me and said, ‘No, it’s $5 million!’ I called my wife and told her I’m buying a new truck. Then I said, ‘I won $5 million!’ She was more excited than I was.”
Plans are underway for Leslie’s windfall. “I will help my son out with his mortgage and treat my grandkids too. One of them loves hockey. I’m going to buy two new trucks for me and my wife. I will be giving half of my winnings to my wife. And I’m planning to do more fishing going forward. Winning the lottery feels surreal. This money gives me freedom to travel. I would love to take my wife to Paris. I’ve never been out of the country so that will be my first stop,” he concluded.
The winning ticket was purchased at IDA Pharmacy on Simcoe Street in Beaverton.
