WHAT IS AN INSIDER WIN?

An Insider Win occurs where an Insider claims and is paid a lottery prize.

It is the policy of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) that any Directors, Officers, Partners, Owners, and employees of the Defined Categories (listed below) and their immediate family members, including spouse (whether married or common law relationship), children, parents, siblings and any other relatives who reside with them will be subject to Insider Win Procedures as defined by the Corporation.

Persons designated by OLG as Related Parties (below) are not eligible to participate by themselves or as a group, in a lottery in Ontario, including without limitation, purchasing a ticket, validating a ticket or receiving a ticket as a gift, and are not entitled to claim any prize in a lottery.

 

 

It is the responsibility of the Insider and/or previous Related Parties to advise OLG of their relationship to OLG upon claiming their prize.

INSIDERS and related parties ARE:

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) consider persons as Insiders and/or Related Parties (defined below) if they are employed as an Insider or Related Party within twelve (12) months prior to the date of a prize claim.

Individuals designated by OLG as Related Parties are not eligible to participate by themselves or as a group in a lottery in Ontario, including without limitation, purchasing a ticket, validating a ticket or receiving a ticket as a gift and are not entitled to claim a prize in a lottery conducted and managed by OLG.  OLG designates the following individuals, groups or organizations as “Related Parties”:

  • Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation

  • Individual consultants or public sector employees retained by OLG through contracts of retainer for periods of 30 calendar days or more in the aggregate

  • Persons under the age of 18 years of age

  • Authorized retailers and sellers of OLG lottery products and services at locations they are affiliated with

  • Regulator of Lottery (Alcohol and Gaming Corporation)

  • Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assigned to the OPP’s AGCO Investigation and Enforcement Bureau

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) designate the following individuals, groups or organizations as “Insiders”: 

  • Authorized retailers and sellers of OLG lottery products and services at locations they are not affiliated with

  • Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC)

  • Other Canadian Lottery Jurisdictions

  • Key Lottery Suppliers to OLG

  • Suppliers of Independent Audit, Advisory or Security Services

  • Operators and category 1 and 2 gaming assistants at other gaming sites than the service provider they work for

  • An employee of accountable Ontario Government Ministries of the OLG and AGCO with Lottery specific oversight: Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Attorney General

  • Immediate family members or any other relatives who reside with the Insider or Related Party (as defined above) will be treated as Insiders.

 

LOTTERY PRIZES $10,000 AND OVER

If you are claiming a prize of $10,000 and over and fall within OLG's Related Party/Insider Win definition, the claim process can take several weeks to complete. The prize claim process includes an interview with a prize claim investigator who will review the details of your claim.

For group wins, each member of the winning group will be interviewed individually. The process of validating an Insider claim can take several weeks and may involve follow-up interviews.

For major wins of $10,000 or more, we recommend that group leaders contact the OLG Prize Centre to schedule an appointment at 1-800-387-0098.
