Toronto, ON – Family was the first thing that came to mind for 60 year old ski instructor Marijan Kalman of Toronto when he learned about his big lottery win. “I thought about the fact my wife can now retire and my son is taken care of, too. What an amazing feeling!” Marijan won the $8,163,061.10 jackpot from the February 22, 2017 LOTTO 6/49 draw.
The day after the draw, Marijan was picking up groceries and decided to check his LOTTO 6/49 ticket. “I scanned it in the ticket checker. When I saw the amount I won, I left the store. I went back to my car to call my wife and I told her to hand in her retirement notice as soon as possible because I had just won $8 million! She was in disbelief.” The following day, Marijan arrived at the OLG Prize Centre to pick up his cheque.
After Marijan’s wife officially retires, the couple plans to make a generous donation to the family’s favourite charities. “Sick Kids Hospital and Holland-Bloorview Rehabilitation Centre are both near and dear to our hearts. We also want to travel to Turks and Cacaos. We might even buy a retirement property there. Winning the lottery gives me the freedom to do what I always wanted to, when I want and how I want,” concluded Marijan.
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on the Queensway in Toronto.
